Google has deepened its push into education by releasing more than 30 Gemini-powered tools that teachers can use free of charge through Google Workspace for Education. Announced at the ISTE ed-tech conference, the package includes a version of the Gemini app built for schools as well as new capabilities in Classroom that draft lesson plans, quizzes and rubrics directly from a teacher’s own materials.
Educators can now create custom subject-specific chatbots, or “Gems,” to help students who need extra support, and can generate interactive study guides and podcast-style audio summaries via the AI research tool Notebook LM. Google is also extending basic access to its collaborative video maker, Google Vids, and adding analytics that let teachers track progress against learning standards.
The company is embedding many of the new functions inside the side panel of Docs, Slides, Gmail and other Workspace apps to reduce workflow friction. Roll-outs began on 30 June and will reach eligible English-language accounts over the coming weeks, with no additional admin controls required for schools.
Separately, Google has widened access to Veo 3, its latest video-generation model. The software, which creates eight-second 720p clips that include synchronized audio, is now available in 159 countries for users of the $19.99-per-month Gemini Pro tier, after previously being limited to higher-priced Ultra subscribers.
