Former President Donald Trump has announced a plan to eliminate all taxes on tips as part of his proposed tax cuts. This move has sparked significant public interest, with many expressing support for the initiative. The discussion around tipping in the United States has intensified, with experts and commentators noting that tipping has become increasingly expected and out of control. Some argue that tips should not be taxed as they are considered gifts to show appreciation, and not mandatory income. The debate continues on whether tipping should remain optional and how to address the growing expectations around it. Trump urged people to write 'no tax on tips' for the next five months.
I'm tired of tipping as an American. Shits out of control, yall.
You guys know my stance on tipping, my support for 20% no matter what. Knowing this context, if you eat out somewhere and you're hit with a 20% service charge, I give you permission to not tip. https://t.co/DwM0FNBqCK
From @WSJopinion: Americans donโt hate tipping. We hate that itโs expected. How do we get back to tipping being optional? asks @andykessler. https://t.co/b99WZH6GAa

Tips are not income and should not be taxed. A tip is a gift to show appreciation. Customers are not required to tip and workers are required to provide service even to those who chose not to tip. Also, customers don't deduct tips from their taxes the way employers deduct wages.
