Spain's Socialists are struggling to regain power, and they may be willing to make concessions to separatists in order to achieve it. One potential concession is the possibility of granting amnesty, although this could anger many Spaniards. Pedro Sánchez, the acting prime minister, wants to focus on running Spain, while the parties he needs support from are interested in breaking up the country. The conservatives have failed to form a government, clearing the way for the socialists. Sánchez has accepted an invitation from King Felipe VI to try to form a government, but he must convince Catalan separatists to support him. This is his third term as prime minister, and he has just weeks to secure the necessary votes.
