We need to keep separated the arguments re banning/limiting the use of phones at school and the arguments re mental health. After all, we know video games are not harmful, but we do not want kids to play when attending classes. Note: that's *not* an endorsement of bans.
There are reasons why school smartphone bans might work in Norway, but not the United States — though I think they should be banned here. Many parents are itching to sue schools and wise teachers aren’t going to escalate a conflict over a student texting during a class.
