Senator Mike Lee, known as @BasedMikeLee, faced backlash after deleting a tweet that opposed former President Donald Trump's proposal to grant automatic green cards to all college graduates. The tweet, which simply stated 'No,' was seen as a rare moment of dissent within the Republican Party. Critics argue that Lee's quick retraction reflects a broader fear among Republicans to challenge Trump, even when his policies align with those of political opponents like Hillary Clinton. This incident has sparked discussions about the lack of a unified conservative stance within the party. Lee's action was described as brave by some who noted that other Republican congressmen and senators have expressed similar sentiments privately. However, his deletion of the tweet was disappointing to his supporters.
I have tremendous respect for @BasedMikeLee, so it was beyond disappointing that he deleted this post. https://t.co/jrOeDJ995L
Hey “Based Mike Lee” why did you delete this tweet https://t.co/sBb8gZ0Fhf https://t.co/KQjviKduld
.@BasedMikeLee was brave for a minute to say out loud what other Republican congressman and senators said to me privately… but deleted it very quickly https://t.co/XKVZBKxHAU
I saw this tweet by Mike Lee. It literally just said, "No." But Lee deleted it because he, like most Republicans, is terrified of calling out Trump, even when Trump adopts the exact same policies as someone like Hillary Clinton. The party is utterly pathetic with few exceptions. https://t.co/tAO5KFLS97
Lol, Mike Lee made a post pushing back on Trump's promise for automatic green cards for all college graduates.....and he already deleted it. We don't have a conservative party. Also Mike Lee needs to remove the word 'based' from his user name. He is too weak for that.
