SoftBank, the Japanese tech giant, has reported a quarterly loss of 789 billion yen ($5.22 billion), marking its fourth straight quarter in the red. The loss was attributed to the bankruptcy of office-sharing company WeWork, which cost SoftBank $6.2 billion. Prior to the bankruptcy filing, SoftBank had wired $1.5 billion to WeWork lenders, including Goldman Sachs. This loss adds to SoftBank's previous losses, with the company losing $14 billion on WeWork, making it one of the worst bets in startup history. The company's Vision Fund posted a $9.3 billion quarterly loss, even as it continues to chase new deals in AI. Despite these losses, SoftBank reported an adjusted $300M investment gain for its Vision Funds in Q2, with Vision Fund 1 gaining $2.5B thanks to Arm's IPO while Vision Fund 2 lost $2.1B.
