Fonterra and Unnamed Company Collaborate to Tackle Crop Fungal Diseases, Fonterra Sets 30% Emissions Reduction Target

Two of the world’s biggest farm companies, Fonterra and another unnamed company, are collaborating for the first time to address fungal diseases in crops. Fonterra, the world’s biggest dairy exporter, is introducing a greenhouse gas emissions target for its New Zealand farmers, aiming to reduce emissions by 30% by 2030. Denmark’s climate minister, Lars Aagaard, is calling for EU farmers to pay for their greenhouse gas emissions to align with the target of cutting the bloc’s carbon footprint by 95% by 2040 compared with 1990 levels. The Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index highlighted a 3.3% increase in emissions by 20 of the largest meat and dairy suppliers to brands like McDonalds and Walmart.
