Amazon's cloud division, AWS, has officially discontinued its Snowmobile service, a data transfer solution that utilized an 18-wheeler truck to help customers move large volumes of on-premises data to AWS facilities. The service, introduced in 2016 and discontinued eight years later, was notably unveiled by then AWS head and current CEO, Andy Jassy. The Snowmobile was designed to address the challenges of massive data transfer by physically transporting data in a secure truck.
