Democrats Demand Action on Elon Musk’s DOGE Over Social Security Disruptions, Data Privacy, and Proposed Legislation

Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team have come under criticism from several Democratic lawmakers for their management of federal government services and handling of sensitive personal data. The Social Security Administration has experienced website crashes and office closures, which some attribute to DOGE's operational changes. Senators including John Larson, Angela Alsobrooks, Jeanne Shaheen, and Ben Ray Lujan have expressed concerns about DOGE employees' qualifications and potential misuse of Americans' financial information. In response, Senator Mark Warner introduced the 'DOGE BROS' Act aimed at penalizing Musk and his team for alleged illegal access to personal data. Additionally, Senator Shaheen has urged former President Donald Trump to require Musk and DOGE workers to certify they will not exploit nonpublic government information for personal gain. Senator Lujan also proposed legislation to halt Musk's influence over federal services, citing risks to vital government functions and privacy.
