Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has proposed converting about $100 million worth of ADA from the project’s treasury into Bitcoin and two Cardano-based stablecoins, USDM and USDA. The move is intended to inject fresh liquidity into the network’s decentralised-finance ecosystem and expand its stablecoin footprint.
Hoskinson argued that Cardano’s stablecoin base—about $31 million versus roughly $356 million in total value locked, or roughly 10%—is too small to support sustainable DeFi growth. He dismissed concerns that selling ADA would pressure the token’s price, contending that the reallocation would instead “jump-start” activity across the chain.
Separately, a proposal within the Polkadot community calls for using 501,000 DOT to build a Bitcoin reserve over the next year. The plan would dollar-cost average the funds into tokenised Bitcoin (tBTC) via Hydration’s Rolling DCA mechanism and supply the tBTC to Hydration’s Omnipool as liquidity. Supporters say the reserve would diversify Polkadot’s treasury, while critics question the timing and potential execution risks.
