U.S. Seizes 3 Million Fentanyl Pills, Nabs Sinaloa Cartel Operatives in Record Bust

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said federal and local law-enforcement agencies have seized roughly three million fentanyl-laced pills and about 11.5 kilograms of powdered fentanyl, calling it the largest fentanyl haul ever recorded in the United States.

The Drug Enforcement Administration-led investigation targeted a trafficking network linked to Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel and covered six Western states—New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Oregon and Arizona. Authorities also confiscated smaller quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine and firearms during the raids.

Bondi told reporters the operation removed enough fentanyl to avert “millions” of potential overdose deaths. At least six high-level cartel operatives living in the U.S. illegally were taken into custody; several Spanish-language outlets reported as many as 16 arrests, including alleged cartel figure Heriberto Salazar Amaya. Officials described the bust as a significant setback for the cartel’s U.S. distribution network.
