Taylor Swift has been subpoenaed as a witness in the ongoing legal dispute between actress Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni, which centers on allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation during the making of the 2024 film 'It Ends With Us.' Swift's involvement with the film was limited to licensing her song 'My Tears Ricochet' for the soundtrack, along with 19 other artists. Her representatives stated that she never visited the set, was not involved in casting or creative decisions, and did not see the film until weeks after its release.
Blake Lively's legal team has criticized Baldoni's legal strategy, including the subpoena of Swift and a proposal to hold Lively's deposition at Madison Square Garden with ticket sales. Lively's attorneys, led by Mike Gottlieb, argue these actions are designed to intimidate and shame women involved in the case. Lively filed an 80-page civil rights complaint in December 2024, followed by a federal lawsuit alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, and a coordinated smear campaign by Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and associates.
Baldoni, represented by attorney Bryan Freedman, has denied the allegations and filed a $400 million defamation countersuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, her publicist Leslie Sloane, and others, as well as a $250 million suit against The New York Times. Baldoni's countersuit references text messages involving Lively, Swift, and Reynolds, including Lively's description of Swift and Reynolds as her 'dragons,' and alleges Lively used her celebrity connections for creative influence on the film.
Both sides have requested access to each other's financial records as part of the discovery process. The trial is scheduled to begin on March 9, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
