Suspect Charged in Arson Attack on Pennsylvania Governor's Mansion; Planned to Attack Governor

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family safely evacuated their residence early Sunday after a fire broke out at the governor's mansion in Harrisburg. Authorities have arrested 38-year-old Harrisburg resident Cody Balmer in connection with the suspected arson attack. Balmer faces charges including attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson, and aggravated assault. According to court documents released Monday, Balmer allegedly scaled the mansion's iron security fence, eluded police, and set the fire while the governor and his family were asleep inside. He reportedly admitted to harboring hatred toward Governor Shapiro and planned to assault him with a hammer if he found him. Balmer appeared in court for arraignment, where a judge denied him bail. He is currently being held as officials continue to investigate the motive behind the attack.
