Seoul Court Sets 9 July Detention Hearing for Ex-President Yoon

South Korea’s Seoul Central District Court has set 9 July for a hearing to decide whether to issue a detention warrant for former president Yoon Suk-yeol. The session will begin at 2:15 p.m. and will be presided over by Judge Nam Se-jin, who handles pre-trial warrant reviews.

Yoon has informed the court that he will appear in person. A special counsel team led by Cho Eun-seok requested the warrant on 6 July, citing the risk of flight, evidence tampering and the seriousness of the alleged offences.

The former leader faces charges including obstruction of official duties, violation of the Presidential Security Act, abuse of power and falsifying official documents in connection with the 12·3 emergency rule controversy. If the court grants the request, Yoon could return to custody only four months after his 8 March release when an earlier warrant was cancelled.
