A dangerous heat wave continues to grip much of the United States, with nearly 100 million people under heat alerts. The extreme temperatures have led to record-shattering heat and daily temperature records being broken across 27 states, including America's two largest cities. The heat dome, which has persisted for over a week, has placed 65 million Americans under life-threatening heat alerts. On Monday, more than 44 million people across 21 states were under some form of heat warning or advisory. Across the country, 45 million people are on alert for even more extreme heat after a weekend of record-shattering temperatures. In addition to the heat, catastrophic flooding has prompted evacuations in the Upper Midwest and the heartland, exacerbating the challenges faced by many Americans.
