Diddy Convicted on Prostitution Counts, Judge Denies Bail Ahead of October Sentencing

A Manhattan federal jury on 2 July found music and media entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs guilty of two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution, violations of the U.S. Mann Act. The panel acquitted Combs of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking that could have carried a life sentence. Hours after the split verdict, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian rejected Combs’s bid to be released on a US$1 million bond, ruling that the evidence showed “a disregard for the law and a propensity for violence.” Combs will remain at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center until sentencing, which the court set for 3 October 2025. Each count carries up to 10 years in prison; prosecutors said federal guidelines suggest no more than about 63 months, while the defense is seeking roughly two years and credit for time already served since his September 2024 arrest.

The conviction deepens the legal and business fallout for the Bad Boy Records founder, who has already stepped back from several ventures and still faces multiple civil suits alleging sexual and physical abuse. While the jury’s acquittals spared Combs the prospect of life imprisonment, the judge signaled that his history of violence will weigh heavily when determining the final sentence.
