Brazilian Federal Police Arrest 3 in R$11.5 Million INSS Fraud Scheme, Automatic Refunds Planned

The Brazilian Federal Police (PF) has launched an operation targeting a group accused of defrauding the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), resulting in a financial loss of R$11.5 million in Minas Gerais. The operation involved the execution of three preventive arrest warrants and eight search and seizure warrants in Belo Horizonte, Betim, and Contagem. The INSS has also opened internal investigations against 13 entities suspected of similar fraudulent activities.

The fraud involved creating fictitious elderly individuals to divert funds from the INSS, causing a loss of R$11 million. The scheme reportedly operated for at least 20 years, with the criminals receiving undue benefits during this period. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with this fraud.

In response to the scandal, the new president of the INSS, Gilberto Waller Júnior, announced that retirees and pensioners affected by unauthorized deductions will not need to take any action to recover their funds. The INSS plans to automatically refund the illegally deducted amounts directly into the beneficiaries' accounts.
