The Supreme Federal Court (STF) of Brazil has begun a virtual trial of Deputy Carla Zambelli and hacker Walter Delgatti for the alleged invasion of the National Council of Justice's (CNJ) systems. The trial, which started on May 9, 2025, is set to conclude by May 16, unless a request for review or highlight is made.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the case's rapporteur, voted to sentence Zambelli to 10 years in prison in an initially closed regime, a R$ 2 million fine, and the loss of her parliamentary mandate. Delgatti was proposed to serve 8 years and 3 months in prison in an initially closed regime and also pay a R$ 2 million fine. Ministers Cristiano Zanin and Flávio Dino followed Moraes, forming a majority for the conviction. The votes of Ministers Luiz Fux and Cármen Lúcia are still pending.
The charges against Zambelli and Delgatti include computer invasion and ideological falsehood. The Public Prosecutor's Office (PGR) alleges that Zambelli commanded the attack on the CNJ systems, aiming to discredit the judiciary by inserting false documents, including a fake arrest warrant against Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Delgatti confessed to the crimes, while Zambelli denies any involvement.
Zambelli's defense has expressed dissatisfaction with the trial's virtual format, arguing that it limits their ability to present oral arguments. They maintain that there is no irrefutable evidence against Zambelli and that she is a victim of political persecution.
