Barbie loses out on the Best Production Design Oscar to Poor Things despite strong support from fans and critics. Poor Things is praised for its originality and excellence in production design, overshadowing Barbie's iconic costume design. Barbie's chances of winning in other categories like Adapted Screenplay and Costume Design also seem unlikely.
I know there’s some folks out there who think Barbie was robbed and while I agree that the costume design was iconic and top notch, Poor Things more than earned that Oscar. Straight up incredible work in that film.
It's shaping up to be a rough night for Barbie, which some pundits had expected to take Adapted Screenplay, Production Design, or Costume Design. Instead, it'll likely win only one trophy: Original Song.
Barbie got SCREWED on production design. I just watched Poor Things this morning, and it was great but Barbie was so much more memorable and ... kinesthetic? I'm miffed.
Production Design is another amazing bunch of work. Every one a different kind of absolute genius work. Slight surprise Barbie didn’t win, but it had a template while Poor Things felt competently original (and magnificent).
BARBIE would have won Best Adapted Production Design for sure, though.
Barbie loses production design to Poor Things--may not be a great night for it.
#BestProductionDesign will be #Barbie. The sets were stunning. #Oscars
