The 65th anniversary of 'The Day the Music Died' was commemorated on February 3rd, marking the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of 22-year-old rock 'n' roll star Buddy Holly, 17-year-old Richie Valens, and J.P. 'The Big Bopper' Richardson. The accident occurred shortly after takeoff from Clear Lake, Iowa, heading to Moorhead, Minnesota, and lasted only 3 1/2 minutes. The weather was noted as a significant factor in the crash. Tributes poured in to remember the musicians, including a reflection on Holly's enduring musical legacy and a tribute published at @NRO. Personal anecdotes highlighted the influence of the musicians, such as a lawmaker named after Valens and Holly's connection with Crickets bass player JB Mauldin.
Terrific song. Baby Blue by Badfinger. Chosen as the closing music for the ending of #BreakingBad and a personal favorite of mine. Badfinger was being groomed by the Beatles but turned into a tragic story. https://t.co/LleR0I9Qji

65 years ago, on February 3rd, 1959, Ritchie Valens, only 17 at the time, tragically died in a plane crash. America lost one of its greatest young musicians, an overnight sensation. In 1988, my mother named me ‘Ritchie’ after watching the movie ‘La Bamba.’
Today is The Day the Music Died, and I want to point out that Buddy Holly was a musical genius and pioneer whose great hits still kick to this day. Read the tribute I wrote to him at @NRO a year ago to mark the occasion. https://t.co/el7fWyeX8y
