17 Portland Antifa Militants Federally Charged Amid Violent Insurrection, Arson Attack, and Community Noise Complaints at ICE Facility

In Portland, Oregon, a prolonged series of violent protests and insurrections by Antifa militants targeting the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility has persisted for over three weeks since mid-June 2025. The facility has been under continuous federal protection due to repeated attacks, including attempts to break in, arson, and the use of weapons. Federal officers have conducted multiple targeted arrests, and as of early July, at least 17 Antifa militants have been federally charged with offenses including assaulting federal officers, arson, creating hazards on federal property, and other criminal activities. Among the charged individuals is August Dean Gordon, accused of sexually assaulting federal officers.

The protesters have established a nearby encampment, distributing riot gear and recruiting participants through free food, and have employed tactics such as using bubbles to detect wind direction to counteract tear gas. The unrest has severely impacted the surrounding residential community, with residents complaining about persistent loud noise and harassment, leading to confrontations where some have accused the protesters of terrorizing the neighborhood worse than ICE itself. Portland Police have largely refrained from intervening, categorizing the protests as peaceful despite ongoing violence and disturbances. On July 4, Antifa militants gathered a larger crowd and renewed their attacks on the ICE facility, including an arson incident that prompted federal officers to deploy crowd control munitions and make arrests. The situation remains volatile, with further protests planned.
