Ukraine has initiated a recruitment drive within its penitentiary system to bolster its military forces against Russia. According to the Ministry of Justice, over 4,000 convicts have applied to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with 613 already released and enlisted. These recruits will serve in separate assault units formed exclusively from prisoners, as confirmed by Justice Minister Denys Maliuska. The convicts will undergo several months of training before being deployed. This initiative comes as Ukraine seeks to fill the dwindling ranks of its infantry amid ongoing conflict with Russia. Representatives of the Ukrainian 1st Assault Battalion and the separate assault battalion 'Da Vinci' have been actively involved in the recruitment process. The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that 775 convicts have already entered service, with 2,402 petitions for parole submitted and 1,843 granted.
