Turkish security forces have arrested Ismail Abdo, one of Sweden’s most-wanted gang leaders, during coordinated raids across five provinces, according to statements carried by Turkish and Scandinavian media. Abdo, who also holds Turkish citizenship and appears on Interpol’s Red Notice list, was detained overnight together with 18 other suspects as part of an investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into large-scale narcotics trafficking and money-laundering.

Prosecutors say the sweep targeted three criminal networks that allegedly moved more than a tonne of drugs into Scandinavia and laundered proceeds through Turkish bank accounts and companies. Authorities have frozen 51 properties, 20 vehicles and stakes in 13 companies valued at roughly 1.5 billion lira ($46 million).

Swedish police, who have sought Abdo in connection with multiple killings and the import of 1.3 tonnes of cocaine seized in 2024, confirmed they are in contact with Turkish counterparts but are awaiting formal notification of the arrest. Norwegian authorities have also linked Abdo to organised drug crimes. The detention marks the first significant breakthrough against the Foxtrot-Rumba gang feud that has fuelled a surge in deadly violence in Sweden since 2023.
