In the six years following the tragic Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the United States has seen over 15,000 children and teens killed by gun violence, contributing to the 260K gun-related deaths nationwide. This alarming statistic has reignited calls for comprehensive gun reform from lawmakers, activists, and communities across the country. Despite the March For Our Lives movement's significant advocacy, leading to the enactment of the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years, officials and advocates stress that much more needs to be done. Lawmakers are urging for the implementation of universal background checks, red flag laws, and an assault weapons ban as essential steps toward ending gun violence. However, efforts for further reform have been consistently blocked by Republicans.
In the six years since March For Our Lives first assembled to demand the meaningful systemic reforms needed to end gun violence, we’ve seen progress – but not enough. As long as our communities remain at risk and young people fear even going to school, we’ll continue to march. https://t.co/10EcrKgyzu
In the six years since the #MarchForOurLives, we have repeatedly fought for common sense gun reform—and Republicans have blocked us at every turn. Since Parkland, we've seen 260K gun-related deaths nationwide, including many in Maryland. When will enough be enough for the GOP? https://t.co/srSCA8XaOG
Six years ago today, @AMarch4OurLives organized a historic march to speak out against gun violence. It’s time Congress listens to young people calling for change. Let’s pass meaningful gun reform to keep our communities safe.
6 years ago, students organized @AMarch4OurLives and inspired a movement. It is because of their courage that @POTUS and I could enact the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years. To these young leaders, I am proud to continue the fight alongside you.
I’m joining March For Our Lives advocates to #RepostYourRage to amplify how much more needs to be done to #EndGunViolence & save lives. From 2018 ⬇️ https://t.co/h5vEfzyxuH
It has been 5 years since thousands of brave students came together to start the @AMarch4OurLives movement. I am continually in awe of the strength of our young people in securing our nation's safety. May we honor those we have all lost as we fight to #EndGunViolence
When we drop our kids off at school, like most parents, we worry about their safety. The Parkland shooting was 6 yrs ago. Since then, over 15,000 children have been killed by guns. The gun violence nightmare won’t end until we pass common sense reforms. https://t.co/0Er5hg0dMs
The memory of what happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas will never be erased. Inspired by the community's courage, let us find it within ourselves to do more. We know what works: Universal background checks. Red flag laws. An assault weapons ban. Now, legislators must act. https://t.co/ofeQLoMS3x
Then vs. now ➡️ Six years ago, we marched for our lives. We continue the fight today and always to deliver results that save lives. https://t.co/HmR3SCARUK
Six years ago, the first @AMarch4OurLives rallies were held in DC and across the country. They helped spur Congress into passing the first gun safety law in 2 decades. There's still so much more work to do, with 120 gun-related deaths every day devastating families nationwide. https://t.co/R30IDRjBTT
Six years ago, I joined the brave young people who came to the Capitol demanding change after Parkland fractured this country with grief. Since that march, more than 15,000 children & teens have been killed by guns. We owe it to the survivors and the families to do more. https://t.co/Id6o1ps9GL
Since the Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, over 15,000 children and teens have been killed by someone using a gun. We cannot allow this gun violence to be forgotten, and today we #RepostYourRage to take on a worsening gun violence epidemic.
More children and teens in America now die by firearms than any other single cause, including car crashes. This is not only heartbreaking, but completely unacceptable and preventable. We are failing our children by not passing gun reform.
