Guatemala Extradites 'Chicharra', Leader of Los Huistas Cartel, Among 100 Most Wanted, to U.S.; Diego Marín Extradition Confirmed

Guatemala has extradited Aler Baldomero Samayoa Recinos, known as alias "Chicharra," to the United States. Samayoa, captured on March 11, is a leader of the cartel 'Los Huistas' and is among the 100 most wanted drug traffickers globally. He is accused by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia of conspiracy to distribute narcotics and has links to Mexican drug cartels. This extradition supports joint anti-trafficking efforts between Guatemala and the U.S. Separately, the extradition of Diego Marín, known as the 'zar del contrabando,' has been confirmed, although a pending asylum request from December 2024 remains unresolved. Additionally, former Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli has traveled to Colombia after receiving asylum, leaving the Nicaraguan embassy in Panama.
