Eight Iranian Nationals Arrested in UK Over Israeli Embassy Plot; Four Held, Iran Denies Involvement

British counterterrorism police arrested eight men, including at least seven Iranian nationals, in two separate operations over the weekend on suspicion of plotting terrorist attacks in the UK. Five suspects, aged 24 to 46, were arrested on Saturday at locations including Swindon, west London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester. Four remain in custody and one has been released on bail. Reports indicate that the five suspects were allegedly planning an imminent attack targeting the Israeli embassy in Kensington, west London. The arrests occurred just hours before the suspected plot was due to be carried out, and SAS commandos were involved in the operations. Three other Iranian nationals were arrested separately under the National Security Act, reportedly on suspicion of working on behalf of a foreign state. At least one of the arrested individuals is reported to have close ties to the Iranian regime. The UK government has summoned Iran's ambassador in response to the arrests, and discussions have taken place between British and Iranian officials. No charges have been filed yet. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed concern over the arrests, stating that Iran is 'disturbed' by the detention of its citizens and is prepared to assist investigations if credible allegations are established. Araghchi called on the UK to respect the rights of Iranian citizens and ensure due process. He also categorically denied any Iranian involvement in the alleged plot to attack the Israeli embassy, describing such claims as unfounded.
