Chicago police arrested a 38-year-old man on Thursday after he allegedly drove off in a woman’s car with her seven-month-old daughter still strapped in the back seat, authorities said.
Investigators said the 36-year-old mother had stepped out of her vehicle at a gas station in the 1200 block of South Independence Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood around 10:40 a.m. when the suspect got behind the wheel and fled.
Officers located the vehicle a short time later, recovered the infant unharmed and took the suspect into custody. The baby was transported to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation and was listed in good condition. Charges against the man were pending as detectives continued their investigation.
