In a concerted effort to combat the escalating fentanyl crisis that claims the lives of thousands of Virginians each year, lawmakers have been actively introducing and passing bipartisan legislation. Representative Spanberger, alongside Chief Newsham and other local leaders, has been at the forefront, highlighting the dire situation in Virginia where fentanyl-related overdoses have become the leading cause of unnatural deaths. Spanberger has introduced bipartisan legislation aimed at combating the online sale of the deadly drug, including counterfeit pills and illegal drugs laced with fentanyl, and has garnered support from the Virginia Sheriffs' Association and the National Sheriffs' Association. Similarly, Senators Braun and Rosen have successfully passed bills focusing on updating Customs and Border Protection policies to be up to date and tackling the flow of fentanyl through borders, respectively, affecting NV communities. Senator Rick Scott announced the passage and signing of the END FENTANYL Act by POTUS, emphasizing the importance of equipping Customs and Border Protection agents with necessary tools to prevent fentanyl from entering the country.
After nearly two years, my END FENTANYL Act has passed both the House and the Senate and been signed by @POTUS. I look forward to seeing the Biden admin immediately implement this law and give our brave CBP agents the tools needed to keep these dangerous drugs out. https://t.co/Yax1tT9BAK
