Multiple individuals across several states have been arrested and charged in separate cases involving child sexual abuse material and related offenses.
In Illinois, Murtaza Hameed, a 46-year-old chiropractor from Aurora, was charged with criminal sexual assault, five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, attempted criminal sexual assault, and misdemeanor battery. Authorities allege Hameed sexually abused a 17-year-old boy during treatment at his chiropractic office on January 11, and that a similar incident occurred with a 16-year-old boy in 2016. He is being held in custody ahead of his trial, with the next court appearance scheduled for June 2.
In New Jersey, Hunter Roy, 26, of Maple Shade, was arrested on May 8 and charged with possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, animal cruelty, and animal sexual abuse. Law enforcement officials allege Roy shared over 9,000 files of child pornography online, communicated sexually with an underage boy, and filmed himself sexually abusing a Rottweiler and another small dog. He is currently in custody pending a detention hearing.
Also in New Jersey, Martin Matson, a 70-year-old former fire chief of the now-defunct Greenfields Volunteer Fire Company in West Deptford, was arrested on May 8 and charged with possessing more than 125,000 items of child sexual abuse material. Authorities say Matson admitted to downloading such material over the past 30 years. During a search of his basement, investigators found numerous binders containing printed images and children's underwear. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court this week.
In Illinois, Alexander Evan Cohen of Crystal Lake, a former volunteer assistant wrestling coach at Deerfield High School during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years, was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography depicting children under 13. School officials stated that there is no evidence the charges are related to his time as a coach. Cohen's attorney said there is no evidence he watched the videos in question, and a request for his release to seek mental health treatment was denied. He is being held in McHenry County jail pending trial.
Additional arrests related to child sexual abuse material were reported in Ohio, New York, and New Hampshire, including a former Ohio state trooper, a 27-year-old Albany man, and a Nashua man accused of using workplace equipment to print illicit images. In Decatur, Illinois, a man faces 15 felony counts for allegedly trading child pornography while under the influence of drugs.
