A Harford County jury has found 16-year-old Jaylen Prince guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Warren Grant at Joppatowne High School on September 6, 2024. The incident occurred in a school bathroom during an argument reportedly related to a dispute over a girl.
During the trial, Prince testified that he did not intend to kill Grant and claimed the gun discharged accidentally after he was confronted and felt threatened. Prince referenced a prior hand injury requiring surgery and said he put six bullets in the gun, which he had purchased for $700 via CashApp from a contact named 'Babyface.' Evidence included a cell phone video from inside the bathroom in which Prince was heard threatening Grant, and testimony that after the shooting, Prince skipped down the hallway and told someone to toss the gun, which was never recovered. The jury reached its verdict after about three hours of deliberation, and Prince also faced three new gun charges.
In a separate case, Alex Ye, a former Wootton High School student in Montgomery County, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but one year suspended, for threatening mass violence and writing a 129-page manifesto that outlined plans to commit school shootings at Wootton High School and Lakewood Elementary School. Ye, who was credited with 14 months already served, must serve one year in prison, followed by five years of supervised probation, meet with a judge every two weeks, undergo mental health treatment, complete 80 hours of community service, and is banned from Discord and the mentioned schools.
In a swift decision today at the end of a 6 day trial, a Harford County jury announced 15 year old Warren Grant was murdered by classmate Jaylen Prince who settled a tiff in the boys bathroom w/ a ghost gun he bought on the street from a guy named "Babyface" @wbaltv11
