Tropical Storm Norma is expected to bring much-needed rain to drought-stricken areas spanning New Mexico, West Texas, and the central Plains this week. The storm, which made landfall in western Mexico, has already caused street flooding in Culiacan, Mexico. High altitude cirrus clouds originating from the storm have created impressive sky optics over Alabama. Meanwhile, Hurricane Tammy's track remains uncertain as it interacts with an approaching frontal boundary and a ridge building to its north. The storm could recurve or swing back west/northwest, but is likely to weaken and lose tropical characteristics.
A large high pressure system and Hurricane Tammy will help build larger waves along the Florida coast this week. Impacts: - High rip current risk and rough seas through late week - Gusty NE winds (20-25 mph) https://t.co/NtVlu99Ty3 https://t.co/KnZlSqKfUl
NEW: Tropical Depression 21 has formed in the Bay of Campeche, and will bring heavy rain to #Nicaragua and perhaps northern Costa Rica. It will “run out the clock” and move inland before having time to intensify into a named storm. https://t.co/ZlE1TzTT2J
TROPICAL DEPRESSION 21 has developed near the coast of Nicaragua in the Caribbean. It will move ashore before becoming a tropical storm, but will will still drop up to a foot of rain. #SCwx @wmbfnews https://t.co/lsuthN8tIk

Barely a day and a half after #Norma hit Cabo San Lucas, #Otis is getting ready to breeze up the west coast of #Mexico with heavy rainfall. #Tammy is still ambling over the open Atlantic and another depression could form/hit Nicaragua soon. https://t.co/b9Qva5hQlj
Stunning sun halos spotted over a golf course in Birmingham, Alabama.🌞😇 Halos are created when the sun shines through ice crystals in cirrus clouds. Typically seen near the sun, this halo extended across the entire sky. https://t.co/xqlKfySNzU
Can Tammy ( or some form of Tammy) come all the way back to the US. Would need pattern of Yankee Hurricane oct 30-Nov 8 1935. Likely similar set up with ridge over troubled water shoving upper feature with entrained low level cyclone back west and southwest https://t.co/WKnN2YfxMC
🌀 #HurricaneNorma brought high winds, rain, and flooding to Mexico's Baja California Sur. https://t.co/2KjRmoliEk
Whether anything will actually form or not, who knows (so far #95L has been the only Caribbean action), but this continues to be a very non-El-Niño favorable upper pattern advertised in the medium range ensembles as we approach the end of the month. https://t.co/uylC0yrb0k
Still a huge amount of spread on where #Tammy will go as it interacts with an upper low cutting off to its southwest. Could recurve or get captured and swing back west/northwest. Seems likely to weaken and lose tropical characteristics, though. https://t.co/jYWY1g090j
The flow of high altitude cirrus clouds across the southern U.S. today, originating from Tropical Storm Norma, which is over the Gulf of California. These clouds were responsible for the impressive sky optics seen over the weekend. https://t.co/wpzUQk2CVn
So many questions about the sky today… *Thin cirrus clouds at 25,000 feet, which are ice crystals, covered Alabama today. Many of these high clouds had origins in Tropical Storm Norma in the Gulf of California. *The ice crystals are responsible for refraction and reflection…… https://t.co/nKDoDWTWxB https://t.co/Al2jnhwxl3

Tropical Storm Norma was expected to make landfall in the state of Sinaloa, in western Mexico, on Sunday, a day after it brought torrential rain and strong winds to the southern portions of Baja California Sur, the country’s meteorological service said. https://t.co/Ric6Hg0xbZ

Tammy recurves but then gets tangled up in trough between Bermuda and PR, then comes back west under the ridge. models trying the ridge over troubled waters pattern https://t.co/iUMaO3CBEm
And #NORMA is of course downgraded to tropical storm. Would be hard to keep calling that mess a hurricane with a straight face. Still, Cabo San Lucas is getting some brisk backside winds at this hour. Watch those umbrellas—they might get turned inside-out if you aren't careful!
Tricky forecast for Hurricane Tammy in the medium term associated with its interaction with an approaching frontal boundary and a ridge building to its north. Track uncertainty is much greater than usual. https://t.co/99btiwQtuj
