The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center (NWSSPC) maintains a 15% severe risk area for the central Gulf Coast region for Monday night into Tuesday morning, with an Enhanced risk (level 3/5) of severe storms. Meteorologist Erica Lopez has provided an update on the situation, which is expected to bring supercells, tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, and the possibility of flash flooding due to heavy rainfall. The severe weather event could include isolated stronger tornadoes (EF2+), with strong wind shear and lower instability conditions, and dewpoints in the 60s contributing to the risk. Residents in the Gulf Coast states are advised to prepare for destructive winds with speeds ranging from 60 to 75 mph, large hail, and a few tornadoes, some possibly strong and occurring after dark. In addition to severe weather, there is a risk of a couple to few feet of surge and coastal flooding in low-lying areas that typically flood, with hot spots receiving 3-5 inches of rain.
