Severe drought has expanded across the Carolinas, with many areas experiencing 20 consecutive days without measurable rain. The drought has entered extreme levels in some regions, including more than half of the Western Carolinas. Most areas in the South have seen less than 25% of normal rainfall in the last 60 days, with some areas receiving less than 5%. Rain over the weekend is expected to provide some relief but not end the drought.
Much needed rainfall is occurring over the SE region as our drought has gotten worse over time. #sewx https://t.co/heeZbMarwB

With many areas now on their 20th consecutive day without measurable rain, the drought has expanded across the area. Many areas along and west of I-95 are now in Severe Drought. Some rain over the weekend will help but not end it. #scwx #ncwx https://t.co/gbSPkIklHn
