Multiple states in the Southeast, including North Carolina and Virginia, have declared a state of emergency due to wildfires. The fires, fueled by drought, warmer temperatures, and possibly arson, have burned through thousands of acres and threatened homes. Officials have enacted burn bans and stopped issuing safe-burn permits. The dry conditions and fallen foliage have increased the fire danger, leading to more localities being placed under burn bans. Air quality has also been affected, with a code yellow warning in place. The Southeast has experienced unseasonably dry weather this fall, contributing to the fires.
Our fire danger continues as more localities have been placed under an outdoor burn ban. Even if you're not under a burn ban we recommend you don't burn anything outside with such dry conditions. We'll also have a gusty wind in the 15-25mph range. https://t.co/6Q4h4EKV3Z

Our air quality has been placed under a code yellow for our region today. Code yellow means unusually sensitive groups should limit their outdoor activities. We have some smoke from wildfires hanging around today. https://t.co/gaqgzCOfVm
There remains a high fire danger across the region. The ground is very dry and we have a lot of fuel from fallen foliage for any fire to grow rapidly. More localities have been placed under a burn ban. https://t.co/GlowTNLQ7m
Our fall color season is winding down, and many trees have dropped their leaves. The fresh leaves on the ground only heighten the fire danger - especially in the mountains. https://t.co/YzFuym5uwX
