Florida experienced a series of tornadoes that caused significant damage along the western coast of the peninsula. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center (NWSSPC) issued tornado watches and warnings for central and northern Florida. The storms brought the risk of damaging wind gusts, large hail, and isolated severe wind gusts. The areas most affected included Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough Counties. Tornadoes were also reported near Clearwater and about 80 miles north. The SPC extended the tornado watch until 3 PM EDT for portions of northern and central Florida. The storms are expected to continue into the early afternoon, with winds from thunderstorms potentially reaching 70 mph.
