California is bracing for a series of powerful atmospheric river storms that have brought and are expected to continue bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and the potential for widespread flooding and mudslides. The first storm has already caused significant disruptions, including road closures due to flooding, particularly in Long Beach where all lanes of the 710 Freeway were closed at Pacific Coast Highway due to heavy rain. San Francisco and the Bay Area have been soaked, with flood advisories issued for Sonoma and Marin counties. The second storm, expected to arrive Sunday and last into Wednesday, is projected to be even stronger, with life-threatening flooding, especially from Sunday to Monday. The National Weather Service has issued flood watches and high wind warnings for various regions, including the Santa Cruz Mountains. Rainfall of 3 to 6 inches and 4 to 8 inches has been reported, with gusts reaching 60-70+ mph. Flood Warnings have been issued for the Russian River at Hopland and the Navarro River at Navarro. Officials are urging residents to prepare, with Governor Newsom activating the State Operations Center for coordinated emergency response. Sandbag stations have been stocked, and shelters set up in anticipation of the severe weather conditions, including an Urban & Small Stream Flood Advisory.
