A significant wildfire, known as the McDonald Fire, is currently burning in the Western Tanana Flats outside Fairbanks, Alaska. The fire, which has rapidly expanded to over 750 acres, is heavily influenced by winds and is located in a large, roadless training area, complicating firefighting efforts. Almost all of Alaska was under Red Flag Warnings, indicating high fire danger. Satellite imagery from NOAA's GOES-West has captured the thermal signature and smoke plume of the fire. The fire is still active and has reached a point where it is considered 'capped out,' meaning it is no longer spreading significantly.
