US and Chinese trade representatives are scheduled to meet in Geneva this weekend for their first face-to-face talks aimed at deescalating the trade war. President Donald Trump has suggested lowering the tariff rate with China to 80%, stating '80% tariff would be fine,' but the final terms will be determined by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Most US exports to China are currently subject to a 125% tariff.

Retailers are shifting away from China due to the high tariffs, and businesses connected to the ports are already reporting empty shelves and price increases. Over 63% of the cargo entering the Port of Long Beach comes from China. The rapid decline in shipping activity is affecting jobs and supply chains throughout the United States.
