Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) announced that it can produce next-generation chips, including those using the A16 manufacturing process, without relying on ASML's new advanced High NA EUV lithography machines, which come with a daunting price tag. TSMC Senior Vice President Kevin Zhang stated, 'I like the technology but I don't like the sticker price,' noting that the cost of over €350 million per machine is prohibitive. Additionally, TSMC plans to begin construction of its first European fabrication plant in Dresden, Germany, in the fourth quarter of 2024, with an investment of $11 billion. The facility is expected to start production in 2027 and will benefit from subsidies under Europe's Chips Act. TSMC also aims to triple its CoWoS capacity from 15,000 units per month at the end of 2023 to between 45,000 and 50,000 units per month by the end of 2024.
