Children’s products sold by the Chinese-founded online shopping giant Shein contained toxic substances in amounts hundreds of times above acceptable levels, according to the government of South Korea’s capital, Seoul. South Korean officials found that one pair of shoes had 428 times the permitted phthalate levels, which are known to cause hormone disruptions, cancer, and fertility problems. The latest safety inspection conducted by the Seoul city government revealed that toxic substances were found in seven out of eight children's leather products from Shein.
