A 35-year-old man, Nurmuhammed Inus, has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his 29-year-old wife, Mairunnisa B. Osman, in their Lincoln Square apartment. The incident occurred on Saturday, and a Cook County judge ordered Inus detained while awaiting trial at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. The couple's four children, aged 3 to 12, were present during the attack, with the two oldest witnessing the stabbing. Inus appeared in court with the aid of a Burmese interpreter. Inus allegedly argued with Osman over her desire for a divorce and accused her of infidelity before retrieving a knife from the kitchen and stabbing her. The children heard their mother scream and saw Inus choking her while threatening her life. After the stabbing, Inus washed blood off his hands and attempted to dissuade his oldest child from calling 911. He later turned himself in to the Chicago Police Department. Osman was pronounced dead at Saint Francis Hospital, and the Cook County medical examiner’s office had previously identified her as living in the West Ridge neighborhood. The Chicago Fire Department battled an extra-alarm fire at a commercial building on the West Side, located at 5039 W. Lake St., which disrupted CTA Green Line service between Ashland/Lake and Harlem/Lake. No injuries were reported, and firefighters were engaged in defensive operations at the scene. The fire required multiple master streams and the use of a CFD drone. Separately, at least five residential garages caught fire in a Lincoln Park alley overnight between the 2000 blocks of Dayton and Fremont. No injuries were reported, and no residents were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation by CPD officers.
