Governor JB Pritzker has signed a bill to create the Department of Early Childhood, a new cabinet-level state agency in Illinois dedicated to early childhood education and development. This agency, which will consolidate programs currently overseen by three different agencies, aims to simplify and improve services for families. The Department of Early Childhood will oversee all early education programs in Illinois starting July 2026. Pritzker highlighted that the new agency will make it easier for parents to access the care their children deserve without navigating complex bureaucracy.
It's hard enough juggling all the responsibilities that fall on parents' shoulders. On top of that, you shouldn’t have to navigate the complex bureaucracy to get the care your children deserve. Today, I'm proud to put an end to that in IL with the new Dept. of Early Childhood. https://t.co/5mgqLlhqF9
