CTA President Dorval Carter testified before the transportation committee, addressing criticism over the agency's performance despite unprecedented Federal transit funding. Carter promised that service would return to normal by the end of 2024. He expressed frustration over the constant negativity from outsiders and described calls for his dismissal as racist and unfair, citing the city's history of targeting African American leaders. Governor Pritzker had previously suggested a leadership change at the CTA.
Somebody down at City Council please simply ask him how CTA service got so reduced during three years of unprecedented Federal public transit funding for CTA? https://t.co/f3Bjwk8Z7L https://t.co/bDsLW18XMl https://t.co/5aiuWjf3BE
CTA President Dorval Carter blasts criticism. He told aldermen the CTA is recovering from pandemic woes & described calls for him to be fired as racist and unfair. “This city has a history of attacking and trying to bring down their African American leaders.” (1/3) https://t.co/PEfCof5HTc
Somebody at City Council ask the CTA President to respond to Governor Pritzker tactfully suggesting it’s time for a CTA leadership change a month ago. Let’s see how big a hole he can dig himself responding to that. https://t.co/f3Bjwk8Z7L
CTA President making a bunch of promises service will be back to “normal” by end of 2024. But that doesn’t address how (while flush with unprecedented Federal transit funding) service got so fucking bad on his watch. Anyway he’s testifying. Tune in on @chicityclerk web site.
CTA Pres. Dorval Carter is very measured in his tone this morning but clearly frustrated at his hearing before the transportation committee. He says that although the buck stops with him, he says a constant stream of negativity from outsiders makes it hard for him to do his job.
Honestly, @SecretaryPete should personally address some of the incompetence at MARTA and CTA. This is outrageous. https://t.co/CJFVBP8y6L
