In the aftermath of the Cook County primary elections, the Chicago Board of Elections disclosed the discovery of thousands of additional ballots that were not initially counted. Specifically, 10,659 votes were added to the unofficial count, bringing the total ballots cast in Chicago to 368,990, which represents a 24.44% turnout of the 1,509,554 registered voters. This revelation came four days after the polls closed, with the additional ballots primarily coming from drop boxes. The error has significantly impacted the Democratic primary race for Cook County state's attorney, tightening the race to a mere 2,000 votes difference between the candidates at one point, with just 4,800 votes separating them earlier. The Board of Elections admitted to a mistake in the ballot counting process, with further updates indicating that the race remains too close to call, with Eileen Cook leading Clayton for Cook by 1,643 votes. Additional ballots, including approximately 2,800 ballots still to be counted, and as many as 3,500 provisional and nursing home ballots as well as some overseas ballots, are pending.

To sum this up: 13k additional ballots will be counted today. There were no newly "found" ballots, according to the Board of Elections, just a misreporting of how many ballots were received by Election Day. All of those ballots are already reflected in the current vote total. https://t.co/YPaOlj0SXm
This thing is going to be close…more votes post later today. The Election Board is not impressing as the County has no answer for why counting is taking so long or why new votes continue to be “found”. https://t.co/rRaTrbIzL2

Chicago announces the existence of an additional 10k mail-in ballots that were "mistakenly" not mentioned until now. Many (if not most) of the ballots are from dropboxes, meaning postmarks are NOT required… This will have MAJOR implications. Just 4,000 votes total now… https://t.co/YoITgpN3wv

Correction: after counting what was stated as most of the remaining mail-in & dropbox ballots, EOB holds a 4,000+ lead. BUT…election staff told me they misstated the total number of remaining ballots, and 14,710 more (most are dropbox, so not postmarked) still must be counted.
