The Trudeau government is increasing media subsidies with the Toronto Star and Canadian state broadcaster receiving significant funding. Canada's state broadcaster will get an additional $90 million next year despite revenue decline and layoffs. Another $59 million in media subsidies has been announced through 2027. The CBC's budget is set to increase to $1.4 billion in 2024 from $1.3 billion the previous year.
