The Canadian government is shutting down Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) following a scathing report by Auditor General Karen Hogan. The report highlighted significant lapses in governance and conflict of interest policies, with SDTC violating its conflict of interest policies 90 times and awarding $59 million to ineligible projects. The audit also revealed that federal departments, agencies, and Crown corporations frequently disregarded procurement policies, leading to the misappropriation of hundreds of millions of dollars, including $200 million in McKinsey contracts. The funding and responsibilities of SDTC will now be transferred to the National Research Council. The audit also noted that the practices often did not demonstrate value for money.
