The Toronto Blue Jays are finalizing renovations at the Rogers Centre ahead of their home opener in less than three weeks. The renovations include a new playing field with changed angles, closer seating to the action, and updated dome field and clubhouses. The total cost of the renovations is expected to be just under $400, with new club lounges to be completed by mid-season. Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro mentioned that the renovations will increase revenue, impacting the team's payroll and supporting their recent off-season strategies.

Mark Shapiro on reno’s impact on fans: “we pulled the fans closer to the action, which, a lot of the things we did would be if you undertook a new baseball specific ballpark..so instead of the outfield seats looking at the outfield, they look more at the pitcher and the batter”
Mark Shapiro on renovated playing field: “It's a completely new field because the angles are so different. We couldn't chop up the turf and raise the turf, so even though it's only been, three years, it’s a totally new field.. it’s going to feel much more like a ballpark”
As for how renovations and the additional revenue it creates tie into Blue Jays payroll, Mark Shapiro said "upper levels of payroll are likely to be where we are or where we have been at." The Blue Jays paid luxury tax for the first time last yr and are past it again right now
Speaking with media this morning, Blue Jays president and CEO Mark Shapiro says dome field and clubhouses are ready though new club lounges won't be ready until mid-season. By time reno is complete, total cost will be just under $400, he said.
