Fireworks Factory Blast Triggers Evacuation in Yolo County

A commercial fireworks storage and manufacturing facility in the unincorporated community of Esparto, Yolo County, exploded Tuesday evening, igniting the surrounding building and nearby vegetation, according to Cal Fire’s Sonoma–Lake–Napa unit (LNU) and the Winters Police Department.

The blaze, dubbed the Oakdale Fire, quickly spread to grasslands along Highway 16 at Yolo Avenue, prompting county emergency officials to issue an immediate “Go Now” evacuation order for zone MAD-063 and to close several local streets. Fire crews from multiple agencies were dispatched to contain both the structure and vegetation fires.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the explosion or reported any casualties. Investigators remained on scene late Tuesday, and officials urged residents to stay clear of the area until it is declared safe.
