Juan Roig Invests €200 Million in Mercadona's Portuguese Subsidiary; Hortensia Herrero Reports €420 Million Profit, 37% Increase

Juan Roig, the president and founder of Mercadona, has announced a €200 million investment in the company's Portuguese subsidiary as part of a broader expansion strategy. This investment aligns with Roig's efforts to diversify Mercadona's operations beyond the supermarket sector, with expectations to double the customer base by 2025. Additionally, Hortensia Herrero, Roig's wife and the second largest shareholder of Mercadona, reported a profit of €420 million in 2024, representing a 37% increase compared to the previous year. Herrero has also made a strategic investment by acquiring a 32% stake in Grupo Masala, backed by a €15 million loan.
