A coalition of UK politicians and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) have launched a campaign to make the upcoming General Election in 2024 (#GE24) the most accessible ever for people with sight loss. The campaign, highlighted on #AltTextDay, emphasizes the importance of adding alternative text to images, capitalizing hashtags on social media, and enabling the accessibility reminder feature to improve accessibility. Key supporters include Vicky Foxcroft, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, Jo Stevens, Tonia Antoniazzi, Lilian Greenwood, Wes Streeting, and Stephen Timms, who have all voiced their support for the initiative. The campaign also calls for video captions to assist those who are deaf or have a hearing loss, broadening its appeal for inclusivity. Additionally, politicians like Kate Osborne have signed the PocklingtonHub pledge to fight for a more accessible society for blind and partially sighted people.
